The Competition

The SeyLII Association of Seychelles (SeyLII) and the Law Programme of the University of Seychelles (Unisey Law) are pleased to announce the first edition of the legal writing competition for law students and young lawyers dedicated to the memory of the Honourable Justice André Sauzier.

This competition stems from ongoing cooperation between SeyLII and Unisey Law for the promotion and dissemination of secondary interpretative legal materials, with the aim of increasing legal knowledge and access to justice in the Seychelles community.

The best written contribution will be awarded a winning certificate and a prize of SCR 3000. The second best piece will receive a prize of SCR 2000 and the third best a prize of SCR 1000.

The best pieces will also be published on a special section of the SeyLII website www.seylii.org (following review and revision where considered necessary by the evaluation board).

Form and evaluation

Participants are required to produce an original written piece of a length between 2000 and 4000 words on a topic of relevance to the Seychelles legal system.

The piece can take any form preferred by the participant including (but not limited to) a case note, a commentary on specific legislation, or a scholarly article.

Evaluation will be based exclusively on merit, independently from the form of choice.

Each written contribution will be evaluated by an independent board of reviewers composed of members of the SeyLII Board and faculty members of Unisey Law following the double-blind peer review principles.

Deadline and format

Contributions should be submitted to marco.rizzi@unisey.ac.sc by Friday 15 January 2016. The submission should be in Microsoft Word format.

Eligibility

The competition is open to university law students and to lawyers who graduated within 5 years before the date of submission.
